Like a stray dog that doesn’t give up, it seems that I am likewise beholden to Kathmandu; today was my fifth entry into the city during the past three weeks. (I think I have the immigration section of the airport completely figured out!)
This afternoon I had a guided outing to one of Kathmandu’s sister cities, Patan. Along with Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, Patan shares the commonalities of three cities that were ruled by three brothers. While not identical, one can see how the sibling rivalry spurred like-building-projects among the three.
My guide really knocked my socks off when he told me there were 7 UNESCO cites altogether, in these three. I looked it up. It’s true! (Perhaps my tour guide is referred to as ‘the encyclopedia’ with good reason!)
Are you asking the question? Yup, I checked that too…I have had the opportunity to visit all 7! And so, so much more.
Tomorrow is my final day here. (Unless that stray dog mentality gets in the way.) My next stop will be a meet-up with my youngest daughter and a bit of kicked-back-beach-time.
Good night from a city that holds much history and plenty of life lessons, here at the top of the world.
