We arrived at Luxor (and our cruise ship) yesterday but didn’t leave the shore until after our morning excursion, today.
After all the ‘early starts’ and packed days, sitting in a reclined sun-chair, watching the countryside go by feels pretty relaxing. (There may or may not have been a quick nap in that sun-chair this afternoon.)
Some surprises along the Nile:
*The number of other cruise ships on the river is well beyond anything that I had imagined. (16 by one passenger’s count.)
*The quiet farming areas have been surprising and pleasing.
*While we have become accustomed to the venders at every stop (and pretty much every time our bus stops, for that matter) I was amused by the small (pirate) boats that get close enough to tie up to our vessel and then do their best to sell their merchandise to the folks aboard the cruise. (Picture people throwing towels/tablecloths/clothing from their wee boats to the passengers on the 4th/top floor of our boat.) Ingenuity. Gregariousness. Determination.
*The fishermen casting their nets as the sun settled into the horizon.
*The cruise ships queueing for their turn to move through the lockes.
The day has finished; night has arrived. Until tomorrow….
