Sometimes I show up with expectations, even when I didn’t realize they were there.
Arriving in Bangkok, I discovered that I was thinking it would be like India or Sri Lanka, where
three lanes of traffic translate into five lanes of various vehicles, with horns blasting constantly.
That is not Bangkok.
Here, three lanes of traffic are three lanes. Horns are rarely used. Rubbish is not an issue.
Bangkok is very much about layers. Temples next to high rises, with wee buildings, sometimes
of basic tin construction cohabitating alongside of each other in the city.
Malls seem to be an essential element of the culture. Shopping, yes. But also for gathering
places that offer shelter from the heat and humidity.
And can we talk about food? Amazing!!!
