How often have you heard the phrase, ‘It aint my first rodeo?’
When offered advice or just as a heads up, it is a way to cheekily let someone know that you
have some {or much} experience with whatever is unfolding. Well friends, today I stepped into a
‘This IS my first rodeo’ in a big way.
Today I picked up a brand-new Mercedes camper-van and drove into an adventure that will
eventually cover the three corners of Oregon, spending time with rural church pastors/staff/lay
volunteers, asking about what Holy Spirit is up to in their ministry contexts. That is the easy part
~ making the plans, contacting the churches and asking the questions. But gray water and
electrical hook ups are brand new undertakings for me. So many details!
And then, arriving at my first RV park…where do I go, how do I ‘check in’?
It was my first rodeo after all…but I was not left to my own devices!
The people that I rented the camper-van from {we are going to call him Warthog} were patient
and kind and thorough in their explanations. Time will tell how I did with all that information!
And here at the RV park…about the fifth time I was backing up, trying to figure out where I was
going, I spotted a woman in a ‘tonka toy’ cart. Just as helpful as the couple, she got me where I
needed to be.
With goats and bunnies as neighbors, I am settled in for the night, thankful for multiple face of
God sighting. And tomorrow night, I will be able to boldly proclaim, ‘It aint my first rodeo!’
