Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan were built in as the central elements of my sabbatical with great intentionality. I believed them to be — this part of the globe, the top of the world — to be places of great spirituality. Not my spirituality, mind you, but it still seemed a thin place to come with curiosity to listen carefully.
Thus far, in both Nepal and Tibet, I have visited many, many Buddhist stupas, monasteries, and temples. Many! However, it is not the spaces, relics, nor the monks that have connected with my spirit; instead it has been in the crooked fingers of the little old women, silently working their prayer beads or in the faces of the very young children, earnestly participating in the faith of their ancestors. In the tender actions of these I have sensed in the sincerity of their faithful actions, thin places.
For you — in life, in worship, in service, in kindness, in giving or sharing — where are the tender, thin places that you become aware of Holy? Be curious. Pay attention.
Sunday blessings dear friends,
Pastor Leah
