Joy In The Wilderness
I like it
Do you ever hear a word or a phrase that just keeps tickling your ear? Perhaps it is because the word or phrase is being used in a new and clever way or maybe it simply touches a truth with such clarity that it will not let go.
It could be that my love of language and word-smithing cause my imagination to regularly take such trips; well, and here we go again.
Yesterday it was muddle through…
Muddle through ~ cope in a more or less satisfactory way despite lack of expertise, planning or equipment.
Thinking over these last 14 months, I will attest to my lack of expertise in the matter. You all may or may not agree with the 'more or less satisfactory' department.
Muddle ~ an untidy and disorganized state.
Make a plan. Make another plan. Discard all plans and jump off the curb. Certainly untidy.
Muddled ~ now I envision when mint is muddled. Not only it is messy, when added to a beverage, the beverage gets cloudy. More muddling, even more clouded, even less clear.
Yes, absolutely.
What a journey these months have been. Over and again I have heard my colleagues say, 'Nothing at seminary prepared me to pastor under these circumstances.' It seems reasonable that every profession, leader, or parent could likewise argue that any training we had has felt inadequate.
And yet dear ones, here we are. We continue to put one foot in front of the other. We step into another new day. We adapt. We attempt. We do so again and again, and again.
Muddling through is not yet complete.
Whatever you muddle-pie looks like, please don't forget heaping measures of grace and kindness ~ for yourself and for those who muddle alongside you.
