Joy In The Wilderness
Inspiration on the Mat
Not only has yoga become part of my weekly routine, I have found a favorite YouTube instructor that I work with a few times each week. This morning while engaged in a session that I have returned to repeatedly, I ah-ha'ed a connection between her directions and Biblical truth.
It is not uncommon for her instruction to include, 'breathe love in; breathe love out.' While I have heard this invitation from her many, many times, this week's reading from I John 3 opened my ears to hear within her words the Divine summons that begins with love from God and moves to love for our neighbors; and by the way, love not simply as emotion but as action.
If I were to theologize from my morning yoga practice, it might sound like this:
'As I breathe in God's love, as poured out through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, I am called and empowered to breathe out love for myself, my world and my neighbor ~ love incarnate, love in deed, love in motion.'
I'm thinking I may have had a visitor on my yoga mat….
