Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Life happens along the way...

Still, and yet again, the Spirit was stirring.

Last night, with gusto we gathered around tables to share soup and bread. After our Lenten meal, we moved into our Ash Wednesday worship service, mindful that we live somewhere between the ashes and the cross, our own fragility and life abundant in Christ. Word and sacrament were celebrated, then we were sent out to be Good News.

It wasn't until folks were leaving that I saw the visitor. It wasn't until after worship that this story unfolded...

It was a cold night and as this visitor walked by our church, they noticed the lights and the cars. Might this be a safe place to warm up?

After most people had left in their cars, perhaps already back in their toasty homes, one more bowl of soup was poured out in the church kitchen. One more hungry person was fed.

Last night, faithful across the globe were marked with ashes. Last night, your pastor was reminded that with or without ashes the Spirit was unfolding God's story in unforseeable ways in this place.

Amazing! Reminded that yet again the Lord works in mysterious ways.

I’ve enjoyed the most recent blog posts perhaps I’ll keep up with it throughout Lent and Easter.
