Joy In The Wilderness
Light and Darkness
A few hours ago, a family within our congregation welcomed a beautiful baby girl. Happy parents, happy grandmother, happy great grandparents. Relief after a tough morning.
In a couple of hours, two families will gather in our sanctuary for a wedding. It will be both intimate and absolutely perfect for this bride and groom and the people who celebrate with them.
Alongside of the joy and delight of these events, we know that pain pulsates in our world. Covid has overwhelmed the healthcare system in India. Cities across our own country are rioting or at the verge of.
Economics. Environment. Broken relationships.
We live in a world of light and darkness. Both/and.
Furthermore, in each of us there is light and darkness. Both/and.
The darkness is painful and hard and sometimes it seems to surround and swallow us. Even on those darkest nights, amidst the struggles be clear, the light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it.
Like the end of the day, when the light paints the sky with color, may your soul be painted with hope. And mercy. And courage. And tenacity. And whatever it is that your spirit needs for this leg of the journey.
