Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Peace be with you…

Those of us in this branch of the church would almost certainly respond, 'and also with you.'

For the final Wednesday Lenten Service, peace was the highlighted Fruit of the Spirit. Quite honestly, when I come up with these Lenten themes, they are not fully developed plans. Rather, a course for us to negotiate over the weeks.

So, peace…

If you were to name Bible stories or Bible characters that personify peace, what would they be? And then, where have you seen peace in YOUR world? Or in THE world? While finding Biblical references was easy enough, I discovered that putting my finger on 'peace stories' was a stretch.

The more I considered it, I'm not sure that peace is intrinsic to my nature. Instead, a Divine moment that I catch a glimpse of, before losing sight and returning to my own less-than-peaceful persona.

Which brings me right back to the point. We spent the season speaking of the Fruits of the Spirit, gifts poured out upon us. Friends, as we wrap up another Lenten journey, may the peace that passes all understanding guard and guide our hearts and minds. Pure gift!
