Joy In The Wilderness
Re-construction as a metaphor for re-gathering
Is it time? It is past time? Either way, we are moving towards a 'soft' re-gathering, beginning this Sunday. As a staff we are speaking of excitement tinged with anxiety.
During these last months, many and various events have unfolded here in the church building. Flooring projects. Painting projects. A flooded Fireside Room. And now, re-construction to fully remedy the reasons the Fireside Room flooded.
Re-construction… Change... A new look to a familiar space…
Likewise, re-gathering is change. First off, a shift back from the church decentralized of these past 14 months. Secondly, what it will look like as we reconvene will certainly be a 'new look' in our old and familiar space.
Beloved faces will be missing. Some will return down the road, others will not. Plus, there will be new folks among us.
As for the Sunday morning routines, for the time being certain aspects of our pre-pandemic practices must be set aside ~ like coffee, cookies, childcare and hugs. And for the time being, masks will remain our new normal.
Still, just as the Fireside re-construction is moving along, so is re-gathering. Can't wait!
