Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

What is in your bucket?

The man was hauling around a bucket of rocks. Why, I do not know... For how long or how far will he carry them, I do not know that either. The man was packing a bucket of rocks and I snapped the photo when he set them down for a moment.

While there may be a fabulously wonderful explanation for lugging the stones about, I was struck by the Lenten-life-metaphor: What are we, likewise, carting around that is a burden that we do not need to bear?

You know what I mean….shame, blame, guilt, regret for things done or left undone, brokenness, hopelessness, {and the list goes on and on!} What is weighing down our spirits? What are we packing around that we refuse to surrender to the Savior who already died for all of it?

It was just a bucket of rocks…or was it?

An interesting reminder that we can give it all to God at the end of the day when we have done what we can do and it seems like there’s nothing else to do.
