Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Best friend indeed!

Wichita is my daughter and her boyfriend Phil's Covid-adoption dog. She is both delightful and beloved.

{She was the muse for my February 7th blog, Best day ever!}

On Sunday Emily, Phil and Wichita did what they often do, they went for a hike in the amazing expanse of Central Oregon. In fact, they were on a trail in the Ochocos that we also traveled when we visited them in February.

Because the path was icy, their trek had been rather slow and grueling. Not long after they turned to head back, Wichita spotted a cougar on the trail, just ahead, starring them down. Being the sort of best friend that she is, she launched after the cougar, who thankfully also took off.

Not to be detoured, and despite Emily and Phil trying to call her off, Wichita pursued the wild cat until she treed her. It was then that the dog-parents were finally able to call off their adopted-best-friend.

I'm pretty sure that Emily and Phil will long wonder why the cat ran instead of standing her ground with the much smaller Wichita. While they don't have those answers, they do have much thankfulness.

And Wichita? I am told she was rewarded with extra peanut butter and ice cream.
