Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Choose joy!

On the mornings that begin with yoga, I am given the verbal encouragement to set an 'intention' for my day. As in, what do I hope for in the hours immediately in front of me? Moreover, how will I intentionally step into the right here and right now?

Hmmmm.

In her spare time, my youngest daughter has been making clay earrings. She has gifted her mama with several pairs; among her creations for me is a set with the message 'choose joy' attached. I love the jewelry; I love the premise at the core, that we select our life-response.

This week one of my colleague said it just a bit more theologically ~ 'what you believe is what you get.' Hold that thought alongside of how you experience God and it becomes interesting consideration, doesn't it?

Hmmmm.

While I will not get to chart each and everything that will unfold this day, I do get to decide my heart-response.

I choose joy from the refreshing cup of ice-cold water.

And joy in the crunch of my salad.

Joy as the people in our community pull together the details for worship.

Joy as I catch sight of deer, squirrels, or ducks along my path.

Joy for another day to live and breath and delight in the gifts all around me.

Yes, there is struggle and hardship far and wide. Yet, there are also blessings to be enjoyed along the way.

Hmmmm.
