Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Here it comes again…

We were well into our walk before we actually caught sight of the sun this morning; not only that, but the morning air has become fall-crisp. Leaves are again scattering and the giant pumpkin we spotted along the path already has a name on it, almost certainly intended for Halloween carving.

Farwell summer! How I have delighted in your long hours of daylight. I have enjoyed so many of your extended days hiking or walking, even sitting with a good book in the warmth of your light. Summer produce has satisfied my hunger; your flowers and foliage have brightened my landscape. Take care good friend.

Greetings fall. Really, I know that you bring good gifts as well. Those crisp mornings are at the top of the list, along with the long-awaited rain that we pray will come soon and abundant. Holidays celebrating saints and rich blessings, events that we pray we will be able to share with friends and family will also mark our autumn.

Those changing leaves are brilliant reminders that transformation is coming ~ of season, of weather, of longer and darker nights, of things that we cannot yet see … courage upon us all, to keep putting one foot in front of the other, one day at a time.
