Joy In The Wilderness
I'm here for you
'I will catch you if you fall,' promises my online yoga instructor; as I struggle to stay upright, tottering in my one-legged tree pose, I grin.
The first few times I heard her tell me that she would catch me, I sort of rolled my eyes. I remind you that I am watching a You Tube channel that was recorded months, even years prior, and she will catch me?
But the more the I heard her say it, the concept of her 'catching' me grew from the obvious and concrete to something far more meaningful, the promise of community for the journey. Even if the community is spread far and wide.
If we are to believe God's Word, we were created in and for community. God intends for us to be in relationship with God and with each other. To 'catch' one another.
The more I contemplate the idea, the more intrigued I am…
Never has there existed a more individualist culture than the one we live in. Furthermore, we are living through a chapter whose tribes are divided over concepts of individualism and communalism. Between my body, my rights, my say or a focus upon community, society, including those at the edges. We have landed in very different camps, further divided by a very long season of wilderness isolation.
And in the midst of all that my heart reverberates, 'I will catch you.' When you are lonely, sad, anxious, doubtful, hurting, grieving, hopeful, alone, celebrating, waiting, longing, you have a community that will 'catch' you. Reach out. Ask. Call. We are here for you.
