Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Ode to the tree that used to be…

Even if you didn't lose an entire tree {or trees!} in the Great Ice Storm of 2021, most of us have trees that were dismantled from their former stature or glory.

Every tree around our house suffered ice damage. And now, until an expert shows up in our backyard, we will suffer the torment of waiting for more cracked or compromised limbs to tumble down. Please, not on the roof again; not on the roof again!

The joy of trees…

*Fresh growth, buds in the spring.

*Shade from the heat of summer.

*The autumn colors as leaves turn.

*And this winter, instead of gentle dormant giants, our trees became weapons of anxiety, debris and even outright destruction.

It feels like a great-reversal. Allies, who switched side.

As we tell our stories and commiserate in the details of digging-out and ongoing repairs, perhaps we even shed a tear for the mighty ones, the trees that used to be.
