A very long time

The third Sunday of Advent marked the 40^th week of this odd and isolated way of being the church, Livestreamed only. In bible-speak, 40 means a very long time. I doubt that many folks would disagree that we have been about the anxiety and heartbreak of Covid-19 for a very long time.

On the news this morning, a reporter was on the scene at a hospital where the doctors, nurses and other front-line staff were receiving some of the first immunizations being administered in this country. As the correspondent was finishing the story, his tag line was, 'the shot heard 'round the world.'

Vaccine, jab, shot … after a very long time, the light of hope has begun to shine through the dread, fear, illness and death of a worldwide pandemic. Halleluiah!
