Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

On their way…

Long ago, in a farmhouse in the Silverton Hills, there was a little girl who spent the fall months with her baby bath towel on her head. She had watched the animated version of Robin Hood once too often and with the towel on her head she transformed herself into Maid Marian

She wore the towel for months and just as it seemed we might move past our Maid-Marian-Phase, Christmas rolled around, and she caught the vision of The Virgin Mary with her first century head covering. We lived with the towel upon her head well into spring, no long Maid Marian, now Mary the Mother of Jesus.

Sunday found the Holy Family in the front yard of a family with young children. Of course, it caused me to remember how Mary touched my young daughter. It also caused me to wonder about the potential conversations within that house or the next or in the neighborhood…

  • Who are they?
  • Where are they going?
  • But why?

Let this be an invitation to share those questions or conversations or ah-has and may the child in each of us be blessed with wonder.
