Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Who is your friend?

Decorations are certainly a matter of personal taste. Indoor. Outdoor. Busy. Understated. Modern. Wildly colorful. No wrong answers, just different.

Especially when walking, one can pay special attention to porch and yard displays ~ from beautiful to playful and everything in between. But only one place in town have I seen a space alien and an elf hanging out together. I took notice. I grinned. I wondered…

Aliens and elves … it certainly could begin a conversation about who we spend time with. Do we have people in our lives that 'come from a different place' as in a different point of view? If travel is the ultimate educator {learning from places other than our own} would not meaningful conversations with people from other backgrounds also serve to grow our world view?

I think I will spend a bit more time trying to decide if I am more alien or elf and in the meantime, I will do my best to find opportunities to listen carefully, especially to people from different cultures or countries or backgrounds. In the end, maybe it is not about being the alien or the elf; maybe it is simply about respect and honor despite and beyond the categories.
