Joy In The Wilderness

Musings and ponderings by Pastor Leah Stolte-Doerfler

Why did the chicken cross the road?

This morning was a walking day. We covered over three miles, without seeing a single deer; however, we did encounter a chicken crossing the road. The truth is, we might have missed her great adventure if not for the pickup driver who stopped in order to allow her to safely finish her journey.

Why did the chicken cross the road? I have not a clue. Probably has to do with food but I don't know.

While life always includes much that is unknown, this seems a season in which, what is unclear or undetermined or ambiguous takes up more space than usual. Things that we could take for granted in the past are now up for grabs.

Yes, that lack of clarity costs energy and probably heightened anxiety for many of us. But the mystery of it all is also laden with possibilities.

Perhaps if I would have spent some time, stuck around, paid attention I would have discovered why the chicken crossed the road. Maybe she will be my reminder to do a better job of spending time and attention, watching and listening to what the Spirit and my community have to teach me.

Blessings upon you as you cross your own roads.
